Orana park recount

Orana park recount

On Tuesday the 18th of September the year sevens went to Orana Park.
We left shortly after 8 30.
The animal that we went to see first was the kiwi. The mum kiwi carries the
baby
they also have strong bones and not hollow legs. Kiwi are our native
birds and are
no able to fly.
Did you know that the females kiwi is bigger than males kiwi?
This is because the female kiwi has to have enough room for the baby.
When the kiwi are six weeks old they will be let go.
We got to see a kiwi up close they were so awesome and cute.

After we looked at the kiwi we went and looked at another native bird the kea.
If you feed chocolate to kea they will die.
Never feed kea your food it is not good for them they could choke or it will be
hard to digest.
Make sure that you chase a kea off your car before you drive because you will
go to fast and they will fall off and die or get badly injured.
They were flying over my head they were so amazing.

Did you know that spider monkeys have an thumbprint on the tail?
They use their
tail to balance.
Spider monkeys are named that way because they hang from the trees by
holding different branches or ropes with their limbs and long tails shaped
like spiders.
Spider monkeys do not have a thumb.
Their four fingers are curved and look like a hook which is special adaptation to
the life in the forest.
They are funny and awesome.

Lion have the loudest roar of all wild cats. It can be heard from 5 miles away.

Tasmanian devil are marsupials and carry their babies in their pouches.
Only the the strongest four would survive because the mum only has 4 teats to
feed from. And the cling onto each others backs

Tiger live alone and spray to mark their territory

Zebra are born with black and then they develop their white strips.
Every zebra has unique strips.

Cheetah are the only large cat that can purr

The oldest is dominant and the young apes mast give him whatever he wants.

Giraffes tongue changed colour so it doesn’t get sunburn.

Rhino horn is made out of the same stuff as our hair and toe nails/keratin

Water buffalo love to swim but they hide from the rain

Orangutan put bags over their head to keep them safe from the sun

I hope you enjoyed reading my recount I hope you learnt something new.
