Today as a part of Tane Mahuta group we went around the school picking up rubbish. The first place we went was the compos behind the courts.
You might be wondering what we were doing there well we were..... PICKING UP RUBBISH.
We also picked up rubbish at other places around the school like the part of the school on the edge of Carmen road. Some of up cleaned up the courts .
We found money a phone and some other bits and pieces.
We do this to impact on the environment and the world so we plan to plant trees and pick up more rubbish.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

chromatography
Aim: To separate colours by using the process of chromatography.
Definition: A technique for separating the different parts of a mixture / solid using liquid.
Rainbow paper
Materials;
1. paper
2. felt pen
3. container
4. water
5. pencil
6. ruler
Process:
Step 1: First of all we got a piece of filter paper & up the top two cm down we drew a line
Step 2: Next we drew a one cm line at the bottom of the filter paper
Step 3: We then put three dots red, green and black.
Step 4: At the two cm line up the top we bent the paper back
Step 5: We hook the bent bit up the top to the container
Step 6:we poured a little bit of water in the container and waited
And this is what happened
Findings: Write about what happened. As you can see the water slowly spreed up the paper and the felt pen was spreading through the paper at the same time

the colour dissolved after the water was poured in
Reflection: What have I learnt from this experiment? I learnt what a petrie dish was
What did the colours do? turned the water to a different colour
Did the colours mix together? with some time yes
Why or why not? because other time the water drifters along with the colours

Dirty Water experiment
Our aim was to make a filtration plant using household materials.
Water Filtration PlantWhat is filtration?Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.Examples are:
Materials
1.sand
2.bottle
3.filter paper
4.stones
scissors
6.water
Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )Step 1
Cut the bottle in half to turn the top part of the bottle into a funnel we also turned the bottom of the bottle into a container
Step 2
Put the funnel into the container.
STEP 3
Add layers of filter paper sand and stones in the funnel
STEP 4
Get 1 cup of dirty water.
STEP 5
Pour dirty water into the funnel and let it drip through the filter.
Warning
Make sure that an adult cuts the bottle in half. This water filter is just an experiment and should not be used for drinking water.
Avoid using charcoal briquets, as these can contain chemicals you don't want in your water. Use the activated carbon for water purifiers instead.
Today in science my group and I did the Dirty Water experiment as you can see. In my group there was Hope and Shontelle. It was fun working with them and I am glad to say that we did great. we could have improved a bit anyway it was what it was and that was and opportunity to do something new
The water was meant to drip through slowly but didn't and I think that is because there wasn't enough stones .

Stop Motion
For the past two weeks on every Monday and Thursday we do our art module for art we have been doing stop motion that is like a cinematographic technique whereby the camera is repeatedly stopped and started, for example to give animated figures the impression of movement. Which for us is making a 20 second film out of clay, Lego or drawing on a white board. My amazing group and I decided to do a mix of clay and Lego together. If you are wondering how that is meant to work out then in six more weeks jump on my blog and have a look at the film in action. I am really looking ford to see the finished work we did and to be able to see it all put together.
In the film we are to have a character form Roald Dahl we are using Jack from the book jack and the bean stork.
Oh and the amazing group I was talking about is Hope and Eveyln .
It has been great working with them and I hope that they are able to say the same
A short spoiler about our film
Jack is a boy who get bullied then found a friend and hi life changed for the best.

The Treaty Waitangi
Whale the Treaty of Waitangi was being signed in the bay of islands. On February the 6th 1840 the Maori and the British representatives had a conflict. Due to the fact that there was to different version of the Treaty of Waitangi.
There was one in Maori and one in English the fact that over the years the wording wasn't exactly the same. Witch meant that the Maori were signing over more control and power to the British.
Ever since the year 1974 on February the 6th, New Zealand started to celebrate the public holiday of Waitangi. some people go to the bay of islands to celebrate where the treaty was signed.
We celebrate Waitangi day because we are New Zealanders! Yay.
