Summer Learning Journey

last week in cyber smart as you know I went on a plane to England and this week I am looking at a school and what the time table is like.
Children's education in England is normally separated into two separate stages.
They begin with primary education at the age of five and this usually lasts until they are eleven.
school starts around 8:30- 9am start, then around 3-4pm ends
The education in England is free and compulsory for all of the children between the ages of 5 to 16.
Some children are educated at home also called home schooled rather than in a public school.
One thing that would I wouldn't enjoy about England would have to be the time different's because there is an 12 hour time different's
if I were to go to England I would stay with my two aunty's one cousin and my sister.

  • here are some holiday that England celebrate
  • New Year’s Day: 1 January
  • Good Friday: March or April 19th
  • Easter Monday: March or April 22th
  • Early May: May 6th
  • Spring Bank Holiday: May 27th
  • Christmas Day 25th December
  • Boxing Day December 26

Summer Learning Journey

Today for the summer learning journey curious kiwi and I are going to England and curious kiwi forgot his book.
So I recommend for this silly kiwi Percy Jackson and the lightning thief.
This would be great for curious kiwi because there is lots of mysteries to discover.
And you can barely ever guess what will happen.
You just have to read and find out so I know in at least five minuets curious kiwi will be lost in the book.
Also there is a lot of action packed adventures.
If you are curious like curious kiwi and like to wonder off I can guarantee this will be a great book for you.
Oh and if you don't want to spend day reading the book then you can also watch the movie and once you have seen that and think now what can I do now.
Well watch the second Percy Jackson called Percy Jackson and the sea of monsters          Front Cover
I have read this book and I have seen the movie. I loved this movie and the book because there was like i said a lot of action and it is something I would read and watch again.

Digital world refection

Near the start of term four the students from hornby high have been working on something called passion projects. There was a choice out of Digital world, wear able arts, musical theatre, Community sports, Discovery, Outdoor education, math craft also stone carving. I choice to go into digital world because it looked like something I would like to do.

We were put into groups there was construction, Admin and digital. I am in construction along with others in my group.
we have drawn up some measurement and what the sandbox was going to look like. Unfortunately I can't put them on my blog
so far we are making the sand box and cleaning the sand

Today is the final day of passion project witch is super exciting. I can't wait to see what the other groups have been doing.

My favour part has been working collaboratively with my team and learning from the mistakes that were made during the project.
It was fun but if I had another opportunity to do passion projects I would like to try stone carving

Cyber smart reflection

Today in cyber smart I will be reflecting on my cyber smart journey.
My cyber smart teacher miss Morgan has asked us to do a reflecting on the past year we did cyber smart.
In term one we stared on smart learner.
We learnt about short cuts on the Chromebook.
We have had four lesson on smart learner.

Term 2 we did smart foot print We did a DLO (digital learning object) to see if we could find out information on others digital foot print. And how to keep our foot print safe.
My favourite thing about cyber smart was that we were able to work with our friend and learn at the same time.

Term three we did smart relationships witch we did blog comments and liked into how to make our blog comments better and more Positive, Thoughtful and
Helpful.

For this term we did smart user and for that we did a comment challenge, the summer learning journey and app called scratch

We also got to make awesome DLO's and blog post's.
something I did not enjoy was that we did not have much time to work on our posts.
Also if we did not finish we would have to stay inside and finish it.

our teacher miss Morgan is a great teacher and explains what we are to do very clearly.
also as you know I would like for our teacher to give us some more time to work on our work

purple cabbage

Today in science we are doing a purple cabbage experiment.
I was working with my friend Addyson
here is our document we had to fill out and it will tell you a little bit of information.

What colour do you think the white vinegar will turn the purple cabbage indicator? Light purple pink
color
Why do you think this? Because the vinegar is strong and it might get rid of some of the color.
Depends on how long the cabbage is in vinegar for.

What colour do you think the washing powder will turn the purple cabbage indicator? Dark blue

Why do you think this? Because it's not as strong as the vinegar so it might make it darker.
Method:

1 Peel off three or four big cabbage leaves and put them in a blender filled half full with water.
Blend the mixture on high until you have purple cabbage juice.

2 Pour the purplish cabbage liquid through a strainer to filter out all of the big chunks of cabbage.
Save the liquid for the experiments to follow.

3 Set out three beakers, side by side. Fill each glass three-quarters full with cabbage juice.

4 Add a little vinegar to the first beaker of cabbage juice. Stir with stirring rod and watch the colour
change.

5 In the second beaker, add a little laundry detergent and stir.

6 Take a photo of your 3 beakers side by side.

The one with vinegar turned light purple and the one with washing powder turned blue.

Science road show

Today in period one and two 7AL & 7TZ were given an opportunity to go and cheek out some really amazing science stuff.
There was lots of intriguing exhibitions.
We started with the fire and ice show telling us about temperatures and stuff like that along with experiments.
The first experiment was when they had a metal hoop witch looked like a bubble wand.
A volunteer held a ball in their hand and put though the hoop three times.
When they put the hoop in liquid hydrogen it puled the metal hoot closer together and the ball could no longer could go through the hoop.
Here is some photos of us looking at the exhibitions.

If you ever get a chance to go with your class your maybe you here about it some day I highly recommend going.

We had a lot of fun and my Favourite thing was getting to look around and laugh with my friends.
The name of the hosts are Samantha, Shane and Dave.

. This term we have had an opportunity to win a prize but at the same time we are learning and have you herd of the summer slide. It isn't a slide the you would find at a playground its about your leaning. If you don't work in the holiday your work goes down the slide.

this could happen with your maths, reading or writing

pH Scale Quiz

Today in science our class did the pH scale quiz. I was working with my friends Shontelle and Tehya. The questions were interesting and I also learnt about hydrogen.

 Task 1
Complete the quiz below

Neutral solutions have a pH of 0 7 14

What colour represents neutral on the pH scale Blue Red Green

What is the range covered by the pH scale 0-14 -10 - 10 0-100

pH is a measure of hydrogen ions Oxygen Hydrogen Hydroxide

Acids and bases can combine to create water and salts True False

Which is not a property of a base Sour taste Bitter taste Slippery

There are a variety of strengths of acids and bases True False

Vinegar is an example of a Strong base Strong Acid Weak Acid

An acid’s pH is between 0-7 7-14 14-21

What is true when acids and bases neutralize each other;

Water is produced Salt is produced Both water and salt are produced

Does baking soda have a pH of 9?   Explain your answer

Baking soda is also known as sodium bicarbonate, and yes it does have a pH of 9 because it makes it a mildly alkaline substance.
Task 2

Create a doc illustrating the pH scale.
