The Beatles Tour viewpoint

In social studies we have been mapping around The Beatles tour in New Zealand

There were many people who were both for and against The Beatles New Zealand Tour. They wanted to stay to the music that they were use to.

Those that did want the tour and who were fans and wanted a change and hear something new

Making salts 2. Science.

Aim: Produce copper sulfate salt by reacting copper oxide with acid

Equipment: Copper oxide powder, dilute (0.5 mol L-1) sulfuric acid, 50 ml measuring cylinder, two 100 ml beakers, Bunsen burner, tripod, gauze mat, funnel, filter paper, thermometer, spatula, evaporating basin, stirring rod .

Method:

1. Add 20 mL of sulfuric acid to a 100 mL beaker. heat the acid till it reaches 70 degrees Celsius. Turn off your Bunsen burner.

2. Once heated use a spatula to add pea sized portions of copper oxide to the beaker. stir the mixture for 30 seconds.

3. Repeat step 2 until no more will dissolve. allow the beaker to cool.

4. Fold the filter paper and place it in the funnel. Place the filter into the second beaker.

5. Make sure the beaker is cool enough to hold at the top. the contents should still be hot. You may need your teacher to complete this step.

6. Gently swirl the contents of the beaker to mix. Then pour into the filter in the funnel. Allow to filter through.

7. Rinse the beaker you used to heat the mixture previously and place it back on top of your tripod filled with 50-60 mL of water.

8. Place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker and carefully pour some of the solution from the beaker into the evaporating basin.

9. Gently heat the beaker until the solution in the evaporating basin has reduced by half.

10. Leave the evaporating basin to cool. Once cool over the evaporating basin to a warm place where it will not be disturbed (i.e. a window-sill) and observe over the next few days. Blue copper sulfate crystals should form.

Art

For art we combined a photo montage with drawing and painting,
This art was inspired by Michael Mew.
We had to cut peaces that we liked out of a magazine of which caught our eye so something we liked.
One we had enough images we got a sheet of paper and organised a few montages we took photos of each one then decided which was going to be the final product.
We drew a thumbnail sketch of the one we chose then drew a few ideas we could paint or draw to create our Michael Mew inspired art.
Here is mine

Creative writing: The narrative

 Show don't tell

Show don't tell is describing something in more deft, making it more interesting and more informational. This is to paint a picture in the readers head while they read a text like book or article of some kind

The buildings are tall

The buildings shot up to the sky

Sarah was really upset

Tears started to drip from Sarah's eyes running down her face her eyes turned red and puffy

She was so happy to see him

Her eyes lit up as he entered the room she was her day was instantly better and she felt as if all that was wrong would then be alright

The lake was beautiful

The reflection of sun shimmed along the water bright green grass and flowers of all colour surrounded the lake ducks gliding through the light blue water

Narrative opening

The stars were like fireflies shinning in the night.

The red arm chair sat in the corner of the enclosed rearranged room

The sky looks like the ocean, light blue water, clouds looking like waves crashing upon the surface

Flames burning, smoke invading the atmosphere, stars slowly getting lost through the mist.

Setting

Sky left grey, misty fog covers the towns, houses left empty. Dry lifeless leafs swirling around in each direction. Time unable to told

Darkness invades the sky the moon slowly appearing as the sun sets, Birds flying back to their nests noises start to fade

Water races down the window, hitting the ground jumping to separate specs of water, clouds black and full of rain the storm slowly dies down

Setting backdrop

Thousand of legs moving though the streets birds leaping and flying from power point to power point cars zooming to come to a stop when the light turns red, Trees swirling around in rage as the car pass each other like there is no time to waste. Clock ticking and time flying by. House Lights flickered on and off power points buzzing finally the lights went out for good the buzzing continues like thousand of bees

 Reflection

In English as usual we have been working on a range of activity all of which relate to creative writing

Something I have learnt well learnt to do better was when creating a character to know them, to know what they like what there family is like and their life is before you start writing because you will find it easier writing about the character and will help the reader to understand them better.

I enjoyed being able to write creatively and write about something from my imagination. How I was able to make it interesting to me and enjoyable

For me the easiest style was show not tell. When I'm writing I find that I like putting detail into it and try to paint a picture in someones head, pushing my idea and the way I want something to be interpreted to someone

The Beatles: Social Studies

The Beatles is a 1960s rock band

There is a range of songs to listen to but the one i choose to listen to was help

The Beatles wrote help to express that they need help due to the stress caused by their fame

1960s was the start of rock and over time it has developed and involved a lot, Back then it didn't really how as much power as they do in this time. The instruments have improved and they use of it has too

Significance of ww1

In Social Science we have been working on Anzac, We have recreated the battle on my map

Here is my map

When do you hear this song?

This song is played on Anzac Day 1 minute before the moment of silence.

Why is this song significant/important to New Zealand?

The Last Post is to signal the end of the soldier's service. It is used at military funerals and memorial services.

What is the history behind the last post - Why was it played and when?

It is played for the soldiers who have passed away in the war. As stated earlier the Last Post is played at Military funerals and memorials as a final farewell and symbolises that the duty of those who fought in the war is over and they can now rest in peace.

What does this song represent?

The Last Post represents all the soldiers that fought in the war especially those who died during it. It also represents how the soldiers fought for our country.

10 bass

The genre me and my partner are doing is rock. She is playing the electric guitar and I am singing. In my group there is Dominique and me. The name of the song we have selected is Smells like teen spirit by Nirvana. We have not yet decided what part of the song we are going to work on first we are thinking of doing the pre-chorus but not completely sure. What has been challenging so far has been finding a song that is right for both of us and that won't be too difficult for the electric guitar

Parihaka

Parihaka - Tim Finn and The Hurbs

Main message of the song? This was to tell the story of Parihaka and so it will be remembered

What line explains their passive resistance method? Te Whiti used the language of spirit,

What dose "you can't pull out the roots" refer to? You can't pull out the roots is to imply that you can't take away the belief, remembrance of Parihaka

Evidence of their determination. Their determination is shown throughout the song where they are saying how Te Whiti will never be defeated

How dose this song show the significance of Parihaka? It is of significance because it happens to talk about Te Whiti and how Te Whiti will always be remembered

What makes an event significant? It has affected so many people and is still remembered and will be for years to come

How many people are affected? This affected the people of New Zealand and others around the world

How long did this affect people for? This would have affected people for years.

To what extent are people affected? Parihaka was peoples home, Some people died and some houses, gardens and crops were destroyed this would have strongly affected those people

English Reflection

For English we have been doing creative writing relative tasks. we had a range of tasks to complete and post on our blogs.

The first task I did was Language Features, We had a 5 language Features to choose from. We only had to choose 3, The 3 I chose from were onomatopoeia, Alliteration and personification. I presented this on a slide show then put it on a blog post with the rest of my work

The second task was Sensory language of which we had to create a paragraph without using the words See, smell, feel and taste. This was using show not tell and describing something in more depth

The Third task was metaphor and simile. We had to write and explain the difference between a metaphor

For haiku's we had to write 4 and each one had to be about a season

we had to listen to slam poetry and write about it
